Project Description

Statement of the Problem

Many elderly persons in our communities live with chronic health conditions such as hearing loss, cataracts, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, and age-related mobility challenges. In addition, loneliness, limited family support, and lack of access to community programs negatively affect their dignity, independence, and overall quality of life.

Goals and Objectives

Our project aims to promote wellness, dignity, and compassionate care for elderly persons by:

  • Improving physical, emotional, and social well-being
  • Supporting recovery after illness or hospitalisation
  • Providing care for minor health conditions and long-term illnesses
  • Encouraging active ageing through structured programs
Target Population

We serve elderly persons aged 60 years and above, including those living with chronic illnesses and cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. Priority is given to vulnerable seniors with limited access to care and social support.

Project Activities
  • Exercise and wellness programs
  • Elderly choir and music sessions
  • Walking, jogging, cycling, and light sports
  • Gardening and vegetable planting
  • Sewing, crochet, and knitting
  • Board and traditional games such as Morabaraba and draughts
Key Staff
  • Project Coordinator: Oversees daily operations
  • Administrator: Manages records and schedules
  • Financial Manager / Bookkeeper: Ensures accountability
  • First Aid Officer: Provides emergency care
  • Facilitators: Support participants with activities and medication reminders
  • Driver: Provides safe transportation
  • Cook: Prepares nutritious meals
  • Cleaner: Maintains hygiene
  • Gardener: Maintains outdoor spaces

Organisational Background

Masibambisane for Old Aged Citizens was established in and is registered as a Non-Profit Company (NPC) under the Department of Social Development.

Founded by Zanele Nkosi, the organisation was created to provide a caring and inclusive space where elderly persons receive support, companionship, and meaningful engagement.

We support seniors aged 60 and above through physical activities, social programs, educational workshops, and meal support to enhance dignity and quality of life.

Goals & Objectives

Overall Goal: Promote active ageing and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses among elderly persons.

Objective: Provide social connection, recreational programs, and access to professional care when needed.

Timeline

Programs are implemented on an ongoing basis and reviewed regularly to ensure sustainability, relevance, and positive impact.
